I started making these at the beginning of November and got so engrossed in them that I got behind with making my Christmas cards (although nothing new there)..............
I went to a demo day in one of our local craft shops and watched Lindsey Mason painting and covering and waxing faux books etc and took inspiration from her...............she does make some really lovely things...............
she used paint and wax and embossed pieces of card and metal embellishments where as, I have used the paint and wax (mainly wax) and I was interested to see how air-dry clay embellishments would work as when I buy a new mould I always have a practice so had a supply them at the ready.............I made one heart hanger first to see how it turned out................
Lindsay also covered her items with book pages before painting - a technique I have used for other things but not one I used on these - basically because I forgot too!! but they still turned out okay so it was a bonus that I realised I could miss one of the stages out without it affecting the paint...............
Here's what I'm talking about..........................
'bare' heart hanger - a really poor photo (sorry)!!.....
all that has been added at this stage is bits of ripped embossed card (great for using up all those bits) air dry clay embellishments and Cosmic Shimmer glue to form the dots.......................
painted all over with black acrylic paint..................
the completed hangers after being painted and waxed to highlight the embellishments...............sorry poor photo again (I use my phone)...............
not sure if this is any better!!..........
I think this has to be my favourite..............just love how the key turned out...............
I do apologise for the photo heavy post but I wanted to show you as much as possible so that you can see what has been done and you can have a go (if you fancy)!!
I just love this type of crafting and could do this day-in day-out as you can put them down and leave them and then go back and add a bit more or take a bit off - the problem is knowing when to stop - lol!!
I hope I haven't put you off visiting again............

Ah bless you Patricia - all the embellishments are air dry clay and I have to say I was pretty impressed how they stood up to the paint and wax - I did wonder if they may disintegrate but they are really quite sturdy - I think the this leaf/fern mould came from Ali-express - think I've mentioned them before it is so easy to do and you really can't go wrong - the worst bit is making the start!! can't wait to see your finished projects - I made twelve of these so have a few more I can probsbly upload!! Enjoy your trip tomorrow xxGailxx
DeleteHi Gail
ReplyDeleteWoooo. Don't these look special. I have some Lindsay Mason stamps but didn't realise she did all this kinda stuff too.
I'm not a messy crafter but seeing the wonderful things you have made, I might have to get down and dirty hahaha!
Have a great weekend.

Gail. Patricia was asking me if I had seen these when we were out today, I now see what she was telling me how wow they were. She will be adding it to her list of makes. Hazel x
