It was a friends - sons 21st birthday last week and I do struggle (like many others) to come up with ideas for male cards but I do usually use the same colour combo........................
I used the cardboard numbers from my stash which I coloured with distress stains in black and metallic and gradually built up the colour and effect I wanted.......................
this is one of the clay crowns I made and showed a few posts ago which I coloured with distress stains to try and get an old distressed look......................
Words cut from Kraft card using Tattered Lace Retro Alphabet dies and keys are from my stash............
the 'scroll' was cut from parchment paper and distressed with Brushed Corduroy DI and cut with Sizzix Parchment die...............
the background script card is from a 6x6 card pad which doesn't have a name on it......sorry!!
The finished article............................
The card blank is an 8x8 Kraft card which was embossed with SW basket weave emboss folder and the frame is CE black card from the foundations card pack which has been cut and embossed with SB Grand Squares.
Not really sure it was the outcome I was looking for but at least it is a very personalised card.
Thanks for 'popping' by.

Brilliant card Gail, perfect for a male.
ReplyDeleteDone in pretty papers would also do for a female.
Loving how you have "aged" the edges of the scroll
Have a great weekend

Marvellous male card Gail. Male cards are always a nightmare but this is great.
ReplyDeleteGail this is a great male card, with a little change I hope you don't mind I will do a layout similar for a graduation card for my friends son, who graduated with a first class honours degree in law. As for gift bags 350gsm card stock is the best, I stopped embossing as I felt it made the card weak, with lighter weight card try putting a sheet of paper through with your card stock, once you get the right weight of card they are so easy to make, granted when you have to make the amount I have done this week, my arm is sore turning the handle on the GC, but I have had so many lovely comments on them it's worth it. ReplyDeleteNo I really don't mind you taking inspiration - flattered is the word I would use xx i wondered if it was embossing the card that may have weakened it but thanks for the tip about using paper with the card - I will defo give that a try xx thanks and have a lovely weekend xx GailT xx

A fantastic male card, such a unique design - I've never seen anything like this before! The scroll looks brilliant and the keys are a perfect touch.
